of judgment is pointed out by reference to the goral,22 the eschatological retribution awaiting Daniel (Daniel 12:13). The motif of judgment can be traced everywhere throughout the book of Daniel. Judgment is in chapter 1 when “at the end of the days” (1:18) a test resulted in the superiority of the Hebrews over all the magicians and astrologers (1:15, 19–20). In a similar way chapters 3 and 6 tell us about the testing experience from which the three Hebrews (ch. 3) and Daniel (ch. 6) are rescued.
